Moss Point native Malcolm Tatum has been chosen as the first inductee into the Mississippi Bowl Hall of Fame. Tatum, a 6-foot-three, 265-pound defensive end who played in the inaugural bowl in 2008, will be recognized during the team
banquet on Friday, December 5, and during the bowl’s halftime activities at Biloxi Indian Stadium on Sunday, December 7.
Tatum, who was the defensive MVP for MGCCC during the 2008 bowl game against Georgia Military College, helped win the game for the Bulldogs by sacking the GMC quarterback and forcing a fumble. During his sophomore year at Gulf Coast, he had 30 tackles and 9.5 sacks and won MACJC South Second Team honors.
He signed with the University of Louisville in December 2008 and had 73 tackles in two seasons. During his senior year, he had 29 tackles in 12 games, including 6 tackles for losses and 4.5 sacks. He signed as a free agent with the Carolina Panthers in 2011 and played for the Louisiana Swashbucklers in 2012.
A star student, Tatum completed his associate degree at MGCCC in three semesters and his bachelor’s degree at University of Louisville in three semesters. He now resides on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
For the second year in a row, the Mississippi Bowl will host the NJCAA national championship game. This year’s game between No.1-ranked East Mississippi Community College and No. 2-ranked Iowa Western Community College, the two most recent national champions, will kick off at 2 p.m. on December 7 at Biloxi Indian Stadium.
